Thanks for the comments Jeff... I love to rant as well and listen to all opinions. The title of this post says exactly what it is... one man's OBSERVATIONS of Japan. I should have had more of a caveat that I was clearly looking at this from a tourist perspective, staying in hotels, never really setting foot in anyone’s home, nor outside the main touristy areas. While I do occasionally contribute to Wired, I definitely leave the in-depth, mega-researched columns for Wired.com and Wired Magazine to the full time editorial staff. Glad you came across my blog, and hope you can enjoy the balance between my marketing thoughts on Wired topics, and the stories we cover in our publication. - Jim

so is this what wired spends $10k on? this is very very run of the mill stuff that are observations that anyone traveling to japan in the last 20 years would have told you. most of his points have a whole flip side he missed. the writer obviously did no research before he went. Did the writer ever talk with any japanese people? he reports nothing about the culture and reasons for some of the things he reports on.

sorry to rant like this, but having traveled to japan twice i know enough to know this reporting was very very weak and if this is a major contributor to wired i am very disappointed where the publication is going. also it is apparent there is no editor on the blog or the editor lets stuff like this go w/o having him back up his observations with some substance.
